Addressing the urgent need to reduce plastic consumption, Enactus KMC introduced Project Syahi in 2019. The name 'Syahi,' derived from the Hindi word for 'ink,' symbolizes a groundbreaking concept and holds the power to make a substantial impact. This initiative is dedicated to tackling the problem of “single-use plastic waste”.
The project aims to replace plastic pens with personalized upcycled paper pens, with a focus on empowering a community of migrant women, all contributing to a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
overview
Project Syahi creates pens made out of upcycled paper, which has a seed attached to its rear end. This means that after you finish using the pen, you can plant it in the soil. As the paper disintegrates, the seed will grow into a sapling and enrich the environment. Syahi pens are highly customizable and are beautifully handcrafted by our skilled beneficiaries, a community of women, who after joining Syahi, now have access to a stable source of income.

economic
In 2019, Project Syahi took flight with the unshaken commitment of hard-working women who breathe life into our upcycled paper pens. With a mission to empower marginalized communities, we organized skill-enhancing workshops for 20 women in partnership with the Joint Women’s Program, opening doors to employment opportunities. From this group, we handpicked Savita ji, Reena ji and Preeti ma'am, drawn not only by their proficiency but also their enthusiasm to collaborate. With perseverance and resilience lighting our path, we’ve ignited a heartfelt movement towards the liberation of women. The steadfast dedication of these women, driven by a resolute desire to provide for their families and carve out financial autonomy, fuels the flourishing journey of Project Syahi.
